Understanding By Design UbD was developed by Grant Wiggins and Jay McTighe.  The beauty of their theory on High-Quality Units is that it gives the Teacher complete control over the work that they do.  By using Essential Questions and Backward Design unites our goals with our method of providing instruction with flexibility built right in for adaptation to individual student needs.  While formal assessment may not be as common in an informal educational setting such as a blended online environment, monitoring a student’s progress through observation and student feedback become assessments on their own.
